چکیده

Zvi Miller and Nadav M. Shnerb Department of Physics, Bar-Ilan University, Ramat-Gan 52900, Israel Abstract The extinction transition in the presence of a localized quenched defect is studied numerically. When the bulk is at criticality, the correlation length diverges and even an infinite system cannot ”decouple” from the defect. The results presented here suggest that, in 1+1 dimensions, the critical exponent δ that controls the asymptotic power-law decay depends on the strength of the local perturbation. On the other hand, the exponent was found to be independent of the local arrangement of the defect. In higher dimensions the defect seems to induce a transient behavior that decays algebraically in time.

Universal finite-size scaling functions with exact nonuniversal metric factors.

Using exact partition functions and finite-size corrections for the Ising model on finite square, plane triangular, and honeycomb lattices and extending a method [J. Phys. 19, L1215 (1986)] to subtract leading singular terms from the free energy, we obtain universal finite-size scaling functions for the specific heat, internal energy, and free energy of the Ising model on these lattices with ex...

Universal scaling in mixing correlated growth with randomness.

We study two-component growth that mixes random deposition (RD) with a correlated growth process that occurs with probability p. We find that these composite systems are in the universality class of the correlated growth process. For RD blends with either Edwards-Wilkinson or Kardar-Parisi-Zhang processes, we identify a nonuniversal exponent in the universal scaling in p.

Universal and nonuniversal features of glassy relaxation in propylene carbonate

It is demonstrated that the susceptibility spectra of supercooled propylene carbonate as measured by depolarized-light scattering, dielectric-loss, and incoherent quasielastic neutron-scattering spectroscopy within the GHz window are simultaneously described by the solutions of a two-component schematic model of the mode-coupling theory (MCT) for the evolution of glassy dynamics. It is shown th...

Universal Finite-size-scaling Functions

The idea of universal finite-size-scaling functions of the Ising model is tested by Monte Carlo simulations for various lattices. Not only regular lattices such as the square lattice but quasiperiodic lattices such as the Penrose lattice are treated. We show that the finite-size-scaling functions of the order parameter for various lattices are collapsed on a single curve by choosing two nonuniv...

Universal Scaling Functions for Numbers of Percolating Clusters on Planar Lattices.

Using a histogram Monte Carlo method and nonuniversal metric factors of a recent Letter [Phys. Rev. Lett. 75, 193 (1995)], we find that the probability for the appearance of n, n 1, 2, . . . , top to bottom percolating clusters on finite square, planar triangular, and honeycomb lattices falls on the same universal scaling functions, which show interesting behavior as the aspect ratio of the l...
